Several hundred clipper ships were built between 1845 and 1875, mainly in the U.S. and Scotland, and tested against each other in so-called "tea races" as they vied to be the first home with the new season's cargo. Today, the clippers are considered the pinnacle of ship design during the sailing season.
My scene depicts the moment when one of these great ships approaches the distant lights of the harbor after a stormy crossing. I hope you like it.
